Tentsile - Not Tents

In an earlier article we looked at the Tentsile Tree Tents. Now we take a closer look and find the concept of the tree tent may not be what it appears. In the photographs accompanying the article below you can see the size of these tree houses.

With a wood base platform and a steel structure these ‘tree tents’ don’t satisfy our idea of a tent. At least the earlier article on Tentsile made the structures look more tent like.

Suspended Dom’Up tree tents look like flying saucers in the forest

Dom’Up is a lightweight tree shelter that leaves no trace or impact on the surrounding environment. The brainchild of Dutch arboriculturist Druno de Grunne and architect Nicolas d’Ursel from ThreesandPeople, this amazing floating tent can be installed between the trees, rather than among the branches of a single tree.

The idea for the design originated from the desire to make a treehouse-like structure that would have no impact on the trees yet still retain all the benefits and spatial qualities of a “floating room.” Dom’Up has an area of 16-square-meters, consisting of an octagonal platform which utilizes TreesandPeople’s No Trace arboreal fixing system. The treehouse can adapt to different climate conditions and weather scenarios and is designed to withstand sustained winds. The wooden platform is covered with a UV-resistant double canvas tent made from durable thermo-welded tarpaulin, while the structure itself is made from galvanized steel.
