Somehow we don’t think of hot tubs when we think of camping. Hot tubs don’t even feature that much at even the best camp sites. That could be all set to change with the Original Nomad Collapsible Hot Tub.

The Nomad Hot Tub is portable weighing in at a comfortable 20lbs when empty. It can be quickly assembled and its robust frame and vinyl construction mean it can be up and running very quickly.
Filling is easy. Just use a common old backyard hose. If you want to use it away from the beaten track you will need a pump to fill it - the Nomad site recommends a Honda WX10 portable water pump. They claim the WX10 is capable of filling the Nomad tub in 10 minutes.

Nomad Tub - Heater Coil

The Nomad heater coil is sold separately which is a shame. If you are going to the trouble of taking a collapsible hot tub with you you are certainly going to want to heat it. The heater coil is a clever bit of engineering though. It provides hot water on demand and can be fired by propane, natural gas (typically for permanent tub installations) or firewood.

Water is circulated around the coil using thermosyphoning . Once you have set up the tub no further pump is needed to keep the hot water circulating. The coil does take a little while to heat the tub -To achieve water temp of 105+ (F) it takes 2-2.1/2 hours in air temp at 60-70 deg. (F) and 3-3.1/2 hours at air temp at 40-50 deg. (F).

If you are going to use firewood to heat you water you had better make sure to gather up a decent pile before you get started. Running around to find more wood after you have started using the tub will be a bit of a pain.

DIMENSIONS

The Nomad Tub is quite a size once erected. It tapers slighly from the top to the bottom. The top is is 60″ diameter dropping to 56″ at the bottom. It’s sides are 24″ high which makes it suitable for the use by young children (properly supervised) as well as adults.

Who Is it For?

We originally thought the Nomad Collapsible Tub was just a gimmick. Now we can see some really great uses.

It is unlikely you are going to the effort to erect, fill and heat the tub just for the odd overnight camp so it is clearly more suited for when you plan on spending a few nights at the same camp site.

The obvious use is for a little relaxation and maybe a little carousing after a hard day camping. Where we think it will find a ready market is with surfers and divers or anyone who is doing something that will leave them chilled to the bone. It just might make a great companion to the Cabela Ultimate Alaknak!
