A personal airplane is not likely to be near the top of many people’s camping lists. However, it is just one of the things that the guys at Icon aviation claim for their A5 Airplane.
With automatically folding wings, the A5 fits on a standard auto trailer and can be taken with you wherever you go.
It’s amphibious so you don’t need an airfield. Any reasonable lake of stretch of open water is all you need to get this up in the air and, more importantly, safely back down.
Before you stop reading (Camping Sage has gone crazy… Again!) the A5 has been designed to be easy to fly. It has been designed to be ultra sage - both on the ground and in the air. For most light aircraft stalling and, even more dangerously, spinning are the most common causes of fatal accidents. The A5 has been designed to provide you with very early warnings of impending troubles. In addition, should you ignore the warnings, the A5 will recover from most situations on its own.
You will still need a pilots license but Icon have that covered too. For an additional $6000 or so you can attend a 2-week course leading to your pilots license.
