CampingSage 10-Person Family Tent Review
Ozark Trail 10-Person 3-Room XL Family Cabin Tent
There are many features in this tent by Ozark that are perfect for families. Ozark claims it will fit three queen size mattresses – as usual with this sort of tent – it will take 2 queen sized mattresses.
It also has 2 room dividers allowing the tent to be split into 3 rooms. This is our preferred configuration as it allows for 2 separate bedrooms and a separate living area. We find this gives a good, practical way of organizing the space in the tent.
You can add a couple sleeping pads and sleeping bags in the communal area. We think 6 people is the maximum this tent can take for a family camping vacation.
The tent has three doors, one in the front and two on the size, providing multiple entries and improved ventilation. The six windows (and the doors) have noseeum mesh to allow control of light levels and ventilation.
The tent is easy to set up but it is a 2-person operation. It’s held up by 4 shock-corded steel poles in a cabin-style formation, and the 200 square feet layout gives the tent the feel of a tiny house. It weighs about 27 lbs and the peak height is 6 ½ feet, so this is a big structure.

Ozark Trail 10 Person – We like
- We think this tent looks good. It shouldn’t matter – but it does 😊
- 2 removable room dividers – allows the tent to be split into 3 rooms
- Mesh roof – with the rain fly off you can lie in your bed and watch the stars in comfort
- Hanging organizers and storage pockets
- For a large tent, the Ozark packs up small and will fit in any family car
Ozark Trail 10 Person – We don’t like.
There’s not an awful lot we don’t’ like
- Not the fastest to set up and takes 2 people
- 29 pounds when packed – not the heaviest tent but you won’t want to move it too far from your car
Mountain Trails Grand Pass Tent – 10 Person
This Mountain Trails tent works well for camping families willing to tackle tougher weather conditions while enjoying the outdoors. It is a classic dome tent. The aerodynamics of dome tents tent to make them much more resilient in windy conditions.
Air ventilation will be easy in this tent, as constructed with big mesh roof vents and windows, as well as two D-shaped doors for easy access. The tent contains two rooms, separated by a divider.

Additional thoughts | Stow and go duffel for packed tent. There is no separate bag |
Mountain Trails Grand Pass – We like
- Another good-looking tent 😊
- Rain fly that envelops the top of the tent providing some real protection against wind and rain
- When the divider is up you can access each half of the tent separately via the D doors.
Mountain Trails Grand Pass – We don’t like.
- 21 pounds in weight – it is pretty easy to move around but is definitely not, as per the marketing blurb, good for hikers and backpackers.
- Packed size is small – it will fit in any family car
QOMOTOP 10 Person Instant Cabin Tent
We are reviewing (and recommending) more instant tents. It seems that the problems with strength and reliability have largely been resolved.

CORE 10-Person Straight Wall Cabin Tent
We haven’t talked much about straight wall tents either here or on our post about choosing the best family camping tents. Normally in a straight walled tent, the walls are separate from the roof which means assembly can take longer. Core seem to have found a way around this – see the video below.
Because the walls and roof are separate components, the tent can be made very large. These are the sorts of tents you will often find erected to give more space in garden parties. As the walls are vertical, they provide the best possible internal area.
This core tent provides just 14ft x10ft floor area – it is nowhere near as big as other tents in this review. This seems strange – it is the major reason for straight walled tents. Where is does score highly is in its height. At 86in even the tallest of people should be able to stand comfortably in this tent.
As with all core tents it has some interesting features. Floor level ventilation ports combined with mesh ceiling, provides for good ventilation and cooling. The divider does a good job of creating zones and privacy within the tent.
Access via the large D door is good.
Core makes much of its H20 Block technology. Be warned, this is little more than water resistant coatings with the tent rated to just 600mm hydrostatic head.
Feature | Core 10-Person Straight Walled Cabin Tent |
Type of Tent | Straight walled cabin tent |
Size Set Up – feet | 14 x 10 |
Height – max inches | 84 |
Weight – pounds | 35.5 |
Sized Packed – inches | 28.5 x 10 x10 |
No of people – claimed | 10 |
No of people – practical | 4-5 |
Key Features | 2 doors – main door is a large D type door providing easy access, 4 windows, low level vents designed to create flow of air through the tent |
Additional thoughts | Claims for improved ventilation via mesh roof and floor vents. Single room divider Gear loft, lantern hooks |
Core 10-Person Straight Wall Tent – We like
- Height – easily the highest in this review
- Large D Door
- Divider
- Gear loft and lantern hooks
Core 10-Person Straight Wall Tent – We don’t like
- Assembly takes a while
- It’s a heavy tent at 35.5 pounds. You really will not want to pitch this tent too far from your car
- The virtue of straight walled tents is size. This tent is just 14ft x 10ft which is small for a 10-person tent
- Most users love this tent but there are too many reports of poles breaking, collapsing under moderate winds, and, rain leaking.
Coleman WeatherMaster 10-Person Tent
We always look at Coleman tents with a degree of anticipation. Coleman’s has been in business for over 100 years and knows all there is to know about the family camping market.
This WeatherMaster 10-person tent certainly looks like a tent capable of managing the elements. It’s a bit sad to realize that WeatherMaster refers to what amounts to pretty minimal water proofing. The Water resistant coating is rated to just 450mm hydrostatic pressure. That’s the lowest of any tent in this review.
Most users seem happy with the tents weather resistance. There is a sizable minority that report serious water leaks in even fairly moderate weather. Even some of the happy users report some degree of leakage in rain. On the plus side, the tent seems to cope with wind well.
Feature | Coleman WeatherMaster 10-Person |
Type of Tent | Cabin-like – Coleman’s description. Hybrid of Cabin and Dome. We prefer – Extended Dome |
Size Set Up – feet | 17 x 9 |
Height – max inches | 80 |
Weight – pounds | 31 |
Sized Packed – inches | 30 x 10 x10 |
No of people – claimed | 10 |
No of people – practical | 6-8 |
Key Features | 2 rooms, hinged D type door, mesh ceiling, removable rainfly |
Additional thoughts | Sewn-in storage pockets Angled windows |
Coleman WeatherMaster 10-Person Tent – We like
- 2-room tent
- Tent looks the part
- Large D-door
- Mesh roof – with the rain fly off you can lie in your bed and watch the stars in comfort
- Storage pockets
Coleman WeatherMaster 10-Person Tent – We don’t like.
- For a tent that is called “WeatherMaster” there are too many reports of leaking in even moderate rain
- We like multi-room tents. The set-up of this tent makes accessing a 2nd queen mattress tricky.
Tahoe Gear Olympia 10-Person 3-Season Family Camping Tent
The Tahoe Gear Olympia is a single room tent and does not include any room dividers. As we like our comfort and privacy, we think this is a bit of an oversight. This is a big tent at 18ft x 10.5ft. It is also high with a maximum height of 84in.
It is a traditional tent do set up can take a little time. The ends of the tent need to be staked to stand properly which can be a little disconcerting if you are used to smaller, freestanding tents. Don’t worry, it makes the tent more stable in heavy winds, makes the tent a little less complex to assemble, and keeps the overall weight down. This tent weighs just 23 pounds.
The tent is made of a durable polyester material, which unusually for tents in this review, are waterproofed to 1200mm hydrostatic head. That just might explain why there are do few complaints about this tent leaking. Despite this, claims for this to be a 3-season tent are misleading. We have never known a tent with a mesh roof that is good for anything other than summer camping. The size and height of this tent mean there is a huge volume to keep warm. No tent heater is going to help this beast stay warm on spring or fall evenings.
Feature | Tahoe Gear Olympia 10-Person 3-Season |
Type of Tent | Extended dome |
Size Set Up – feet | 18 x 10.5 |
Height – max inches | 84 |
Weight – pounds | 23 |
Sized Packed – inches | 30 x 9 x 9 |
No of people – claimed | 10 |
No of people – practical | 6 |
Key Features | Single room tent, single door, 3 windows, mesh ceiling, removable rainfly |
Additional thoughts | Rain fly provides a small canopy over the door |
Tahoe Gear Olympia 10-Person, 3-Season– We like
- Size and height
- Genuine attempts to provide realistic waterproofing
- Light weight
Tahoe Gear Olympia 10-Person, 3-Season – We don’t like.
- Single room – this is probably a personal thing
- 3-season claims
NTK Arizona GT 9 to 10 Person Sport Camping Tent
Given our strong belief that larger tents make for more comfortable family camping trips, we were not sure about including this tent in this round-up review. However, it is the only tent in this review that has a real claim to be a 3-season tent. In practice, we think the NTK Arizona is only suitable for a family of 4.
The dimensions of this tent are 17.4 ft x 8 ft, with a maximum height of 74in. It has an unusual design being a combination of dome and tunnel tents. Also unusually in this category, it has a full coverage rain fly. Having a full coverage rain fly means the internal tent material can be very thin. This is great for ventilation in summer. The rainfly is of a heavier material and is water proofed to 2500mm head.
The full coverage fly not only provides great waterproofing (this is the level we expect), but the thicker material goes some way to providing some extra insulation in those cold spring and fall nights.
The tent does include a room divider. This provides degree of privacy but there is a 2 inch gap all around. As it completely splits the tent in 2, the divider has a zip down the middle to provide access from one side to the other.
Feature | NTK Arizona |
Type of Tent | Hybrid dome/tunnel |
Size Set Up – feet | 17.4 x 8 |
Height – max inches | 84 |
Weight – pounds | 26 |
Sized Packed – inches | 28 x 14 x 8 |
No of people – claimed | 10 |
No of people – practical | 6 |
Key Features | 2 room tent, 2 D-doors, full cover rain fly |
Additional thoughts | Lifetime guarantee on poles No storage/organizers |
NTK Arizona GT 9 to 10 Person Sport Camping Tent– We like
- Genuine 3-season tent backed up by user experience. It is cool in summer (as much as any tent can be) and retains heat at night.
- Rain proof. Will cope with even strong winds (if you have staked it down properly)
- Full cover rain fly
NTK Arizona GT 9 to 10 Person Sport Camping Tent – We don’t like
- It is a bit small – we really do think this is comfortable for a family of 4.
- Rain fly windows have to be opened or closed from the outside. It can be a problem if you have some unexpected summer rain in the middle of the night
